St. Louis indie rock band Yuppy plays The Golden Record in the Cherokee Arts District to release their debut album 'Congratulations'.
Yuppy are playing The Golden Record on Saturday, October 17, for the release of Congratulations, their first full-length album. The show is presented by That Rat Presents at the Cherokee Arts District venue, which bills itself as offering the best in live music and comedy to the south end of the city.
It's been a long road to this one. Yuppy started back in 2016 in guitarist Tom Gnau's mom's basement, with Anthony Patten joining while the original lineup was still coming together. The two share guitars and vocals, rounded out by Jim Geoffroy on drums and Mitch Boggeman on bass. Their sound pulls from Resavoir, Squid, Spirit of the Beehive, Helmet and YHWH Nailgun — a mix that leans toward the heavier, more angular side of indie rock.
Congratulations took several years to shape. Gnau wrote much of the lyrics over three or four years, drawing on his blue-collar working life, and the lead single, "Prank Man," came as a response to the overturning of Roe v. Wade. The album was recorded in winter 2025 with producer Max Sandza, drummer for Lobby Boxer, and mastered by Greg Obis of Stuck.
