The Conformists celebrate their 30th anniversary with a show at The Golden Record, supported by Imelda Marcos and Radiator Greys.
The Conformists are playing The Golden Record on Saturday, November 28, for their 30th anniversary. They're a St. Louis experimental rock band that formed in 1996, so this is a proper milestone for a group that's been around the city for three decades. They've shared stages with Ahleuchatistas, Secret Chiefs 3, and Horse Lords over the years.
Their sound is pointillistic, percussive, and rhythmic, built on minimalist, hypnotic passages and dissonant bass-guitar interplay. The discography follows a pattern: None Hundred came after Three Hundred, and in December 2023 they released their fifth studio album, Agita, which made Rolling Stone's Best Music of 2023: Staff Picks. This show marks thirty years since they started.
Opening for them are Imelda Marcos, an avant-garde noise rock duo from Chicago whose sound NPR Music called "hypnotic, buzzy, technical, but oh-so-fun noise-rock," and Radiator Greys, the long-running psychedelic noise project of St. Louis artist Josh Levi, who has been crafting harsh noise, power ambient, and layered tape loops since 2011. Between the two of them, you've got a Chicago duo and a local noise project setting the stage for the anniversary set.
