Free VHS swap meet hosted by STL Video Society for International Videostore Day, with tables of vintage tapes to browse and take home.
STL Video Society is bringing its VHS Swap Meet back to Arkadin Cinema & Bar on Sunday, October 18. It's the October edition of the society's International Videostore Day celebration, and the format is exactly what it sounds like: tables of vintage tapes for you to browse and buy. You can spend the afternoon digging through the stacks and take home a few tapes—or a dozen—if you're feeling ambitious.
They're calling this one a "spooky October-edition," which fits the season well enough. If you've still got a VCR running, it's a good excuse to stock up on things you can't find on a streaming app. If you don't, there's still something to be said for the physical hunt—the cover art, the weird titles, the feeling of finding something you didn't know you were looking for. It's as much about the digging as it is about what you actually walk away with.
And if you've got a collection of your own that's getting a bit too large, you can still get in on the selling side. There are a few vendor slots left, so if you're interested in running your own table, you can apply for one of the remaining spots before they're gone.

The swap meet runs from 1 PM to 4 PM, and it's free to attend, so you can drop in whenever you like. If you're planning to buy, it's probably worth arriving closer to the start—the best stuff usually moves early. It's at Arkadin Cinema & Bar in St. Louis, Sunday, October 18, 1 PM to 4 PM.
