Screening of 'The Masque of the Red Death' (1964), starring Vincent Price, as the feature of Arkadin's all-day Edgar Allan Poe marathon.
Arkadin Cinema & Bar is spending Halloween with Edgar Allan Poe. On Saturday, October 31, they're running the Poe-A-Thon, an all-day marathon they've billed as a celebration of the 'granddaddy of horror.' It runs nearly 12 hours and works its way through Poe adaptations ranging from avant-garde silents to stone-cold classics. The lineup includes three films starring St. Louis horror icon Vincent Price, plus two free events.
The night's feature is The Masque of the Red Death (1964), with Price as the devil-worshipping Prince Prospero. It's the penultimate entry in Roger Corman's Poe Cycle and is described as perhaps the greatest Poe film of all time. The cinematography is in Cinemascope and was shot by Nicolas Roeg, who later directed Don't Look Now.

One thing to keep in mind is how the marathon is set up: each screening is ticketed separately. You can come for just one or two movies or stay all day, and seats are first-come, first-served. The theater opens half an hour before showtime, and all ages are welcome. If you're only in for the night feature, The Masque of the Red Death runs from 8:00 PM to 9:30 PM on Halloween night, and tickets are $9.
