Bad movie night in which a cheesy Lifetime Original Movie is screened with a drink special and wisecracking commentary from local comedians, hosted by Allyson Spina.
KNIFETIME returns to Arkadin Cinema & Bar on Monday, October 19, with the Lifetime original Blood, Sweat and Cheer as the main feature. It's part of a series hosted by Allyson Spina that does exactly what the name suggests: it takes a bad Lifetime movie and roasts it in front of a live audience. The screening is paired with a movie-specific drink special and wisecracking commentary from local comedians, so you're watching the film and hearing people make fun of it at the same time.
If you've never been, the whole point is the cheesiness. These are the kind of movies that take themselves very seriously while the plot goes off the rails—the kind of thing that's almost too hard to watch on your own, but becomes a lot of fun when you're in a room full of people laughing at it. The comedians work their way through the movie, pointing out the plot holes and the over-the-top acting, and the drink special gives you something to sip on while the chaos unfolds on screen.
It's a local St. Louis tradition that's picked up some recognition along the way: the night was the 2024 winner of St. Louis Magazine's A-List Award for Best Movie Night. That gives you a good sense of the vibe—it's less of a formal cinema outing and more of a social night out where the movie is just the excuse to get together and poke fun at it.
