A monthly open mic night for poetry, spoken word and live literature at Mayflower Studios, with free entry and donations encouraged.
Write a Note returns to the Mayflower Studios café/bar on Monday 12 October, with another date following on 9 November. It's a monthly platform for poetry, spoken word and live literature, run in association with ArtfulScribe and held in the café/bar on Above Bar Street.
The night has a fair bit of history behind it. It started in September 2016 at the Notes Café, founded by poet Issa Farrah Kelly, and later moved to the Talking Heads. Poet Anita Foxall has hosted it since September 2018, guiding the community through a global pandemic that saw the night move online every month. In 2021, ArtfulScribe invited her to bring it back to Mayflower Studios, where it's been running ever since.
It's an open mic, so the bill is made up of whoever turns up on the night. The room is described as warm, welcoming and supportive, which makes it a good spot to trial new work or refine the delivery of something you've already written. It's recommended for ages 14 and over, and the evening runs for around two hours without an interval.

Entry is free but ticketed, with donations encouraged at the end. If you're planning to read, you'll need to arrive by 7.15pm to register, as spaces are limited and allocated first-come, first-served. The next two dates are 12 October and 9 November at the Mayflower Studios café/bar, Above Bar Street, Southampton, SO14 7DU.
