The award-winning musical comedy Mean Girls, with Jennifer Ellison in the cast, at Mayflower Theatre.
Mean Girls is coming to the Mayflower Theatre from 11 to 16 January 2027, with Jennifer Ellison in the cast. It's the musical comedy based on the film, and it arrives direct from the West End, where it picked up Best New Musical at the WhatsOnStage Awards. The creative team behind it is a big part of the draw: Tina Fey wrote the book, with music by Jeff Richmond and lyrics by Nell Benjamin, and Casey Nicholaw on direction and choreography.
The story follows Cady Heron, a home-schooled girl whose zoologist parents move her to North Shore High. It's a culture shock to say the least, and she quickly finds herself clashing with Regina George, the school's queen bee, and her minions Gretchen and Karen. From there, it's a familiar dive into the social hierarchy of high school, the struggle to fit in, and the fallout when things go wrong.
It runs about two hours and thirty minutes including an interval, and it's recommended for ages 10 and over. There's a fair bit to keep in mind before you book: it contains mature content, strong language, and themes of bullying, and the production uses strobe lighting, flashing lights, theatrical smoke, haze and pyrotechnics. If any of that is a dealbreaker, it's worth knowing beforehand.
