Intimate studio production of The Secret Garden, a family play, at Maskers Studio Theatre.
The Secret Garden: A Play for All the Family opens at Maskers Studio Theatre on Wednesday 1 July, running through to Sunday 5 July. It's an adaptation of Frances Hodgson Burnett's classic story, brought to the stage by Elizabeth Newman as an intimate studio production.
If you're not familiar with the plot, it follows Mary Lennox, an orphan who moves in with her uncle in Yorkshire. There, she discovers a hidden, overgrown garden and, alongside her cousin Colin, brings it back to life with love and care. It's a story about growth and discovery, and the production is billed as a family play, so it works for all ages.
Behind the scenes, it's a joint production between Maskers Theatre and the young people of Light UP drama, which gives you a good sense of the mix on stage. The studio setting keeps things close and personal, and the family focus means it's as much for the kids as for the adults.
