Starlight Express

Starlight Express is coming to the Mayflower Theatre from 15 to 25 September 2027. It's Andrew Lloyd Webber's musical about a child's train set that magically comes to life, with engines of all types competing to be the fastest in the world. The story follows Rusty the Steam Engine, who draws inspiration from the legend of the Starlight Express.

This is a brand-new world tour production. It opened at Troubadour Wembley Park Theatre in June 2024, where it picked up an Olivier Award and a record seven WhatsOnStage Awards, and became London's longest-running revival of a Lloyd Webber musical in twenty years. Over 30 million people have seen the show worldwide. The music is by Andrew Lloyd Webber, with lyrics by Richard Stilgoe, choreography by Arlene Phillips, and a new set design by Tim Hatley.

It's a long-running one, too. First staged on Broadway in 1987, it ran for over 7,000 performances in London and became the West End's tenth longest-running show. It's been playing continuously in Bochum, Germany, since 1988, drawing more than 20 million visitors.

The show runs about two hours and twenty minutes including an interval, and it's recommended for ages 3 and above. Tickets start from £25.00.
