A commemorative service to remember people who have died while experiencing homelessness, with a choir, art and poetry.
Saint Mary's Church is holding a commemorative service for people who died while experiencing homelessness on Friday 6 November, from 11am to 12.30pm. It's an open invitation to staff, friends, family and the wider Southampton public to come together and remember those who've passed away.
More than 20 people will be honoured during the service. The morning is built around reading their names aloud, with a choir, art displays and poetry woven in. Canon Paul Woodman, who'll be speaking, puts it this way: each name belongs to a person with a story, hopes and relationships that mattered, and the service is a chance for people to pause, to grieve and to affirm those lives together.
The service was started by organiser Pam Campbell, who describes it as a way to celebrate the lives of people who died while experiencing homelessness. It's not just for those who knew them personally, either — it's open to anyone in the city who wants to be part of it.
