A conversation with artist Kitt and gallerist Jennifer Gilbert about her exhibition 'While We Slumber' and disability arts, part of the 'Artist Voices' series.
Kitt and Jennifer Gilbert are in conversation on Wednesday 23 September, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, as part of the Artist Voices series. It's an online talk hosted on Zoom, so you can tune in from home rather than heading into town. The session is part of God's House Tower's exhibition programme, and it brings together the artist and the gallerist to talk through the work and the ideas behind it.
Artist Voices is a series of discussions and conversations designed to support artist development by unpacking and demystifying key topics and issues within the visual arts ecology. The format is straightforward: a conversation between an artist and a cultural worker, with the aim of opening up the themes of a particular project and making the process behind it a bit clearer. This one focuses on Kitt's exhibition While We Slumber, which was commissioned by a space arts. The talk opens up the ideas and themes of that exhibition, and from there it moves into broader ground, considering disability arts, access and activism.
Kitt, who also goes by Lady Kitt, is the artist at the centre of the conversation, and Jennifer Gilbert is the gallerist joining her. Together they'll be talking through While We Slumber and the wider questions of disability arts and activism that the work touches on. It's a chance to hear the artist talk about her own work and the context it sits in, rather than reading a wall text or a press release.

Because it's on Zoom, you don't need to be in Southampton to join in, though the event is part of the city's wider exhibition programme at God's House Tower. It runs from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday 23 September, so you've got a full two hours for the conversation and whatever comes out of it.
