A mysterious, spellbinding Halloween show at the historic Samuel Worth Chapel, featuring The Witching Tale, Jan Doyle Band and The Greystone Sisters.
The Witching Tale headline the Samuel Worth Chapel at Sheffield General Cemetery on Thursday 29 October, as part of the Trust's Halloween programme. It's a three-act bill that pairs the main feature with the Jan Doyle Band and the Sheffield goth duo The Greystone Sisters.
The Witching Tale is a largely electronic project led by Katherine Blake, known for her work with Miranda Sex Garden and The Mediaeval Baebes, and Michael J York, who has played with Current 93 and The Utopia Strong. They blend ethereal vocals with atmospheric soundscapes drawn from folklore, nature and the arcane. The Jan Doyle Band, usually known for wild and explosive gothic performances, are billed to explore a more subtle side of their sound for this one. The night also marks the debut live show of The Greystone Sisters, whose releases The Veil and Paranoia were praised by Mick Mercer for their 'queasy romance' and 'sour charm'.

The setting is as much a part of the bill as the music. The Samuel Worth Chapel is part of Sheffield General Cemetery, which opened in 1836 and took its last burial in 1978; it's now preserved as a green space. The show is one of the Trust's Halloween events, which pair spooky entertainment with the cemetery's surroundings. Doors open at 8.00pm, with the performance starting at 8.30pm. Tickets are £14.00 plus a booking fee.
