Inclusive afternoon club session of Are Friends Electric? playing synthpop, futurepop and darkwave at the Samuel Worth Chapel.
Are Friends Electric? returns to Samuel Worth Chapel on Saturday 31 October, starting at 14:00. It's an afternoon club session, so it kicks off in the middle of the day rather than late at night, which is handy if you're not one for staying up until the early hours.
The music is built around synthpop, futurepop and darkwave. If you're not entirely sure where those sit, synthpop is the melodic, electronic pop that grew out of the late seventies and eighties; futurepop takes that sound and pushes it into more modern, dancefloor territory; and darkwave brings in the moodier, gothic side of electronic music. Together they cover a fair bit of ground, from the bright and poppy to the dark and atmospheric, so there's plenty to work with across a few hours.
It's described as an inclusive club, and the afternoon slot fits that too — it's a session you can drop into without having to commit to a whole night out. The chapel is in the Sheffield General Cemetery in Sharrow, so it's tucked away in a quiet part of the city, a good distance from the centre. If you're coming from the city, you'll want to leave a bit of time to get over to Sharrow.
