An eerie theatrical experience inspired by the traditional spook shows of the 1920s, followed by a screening of the 1959 horror film 'House on Haunted Hill' and a Cabinet of Curiosities.
Spook Show & Film comes to The Samuel Worth Chapel on Tuesday 27 October, a night of old-school theatrical horror held inside the Sheffield General Cemetery. The evening is built around the tradition of the spook shows that drew audiences to theatres from the 1920s onwards, and the chapel is presented as the perfect setting for it.
The night starts with performances inspired by those classic spook shows, followed by a screening of the 1959 black-and-white horror film House on Haunted Hill, starring Vincent Price. There's also a Cabinet of Curiosities to explore, so it's more of a full evening's entertainment than just a film night.
The Samuel Worth Chapel sits at the heart of the Sheffield General Cemetery, which opened in 1836 and took its last burial in 1978 before being preserved as a green space in the city. The whole thing is run as a volunteer-led fundraiser for the Sheffield General Cemetery Trust, a registered charity, with all proceeds going to support the Trust. A licensed bar will be serving local beers, wine and spirits on the night.
