Adults-only storytelling evening by Graeme Cooke on British and Irish folklore, with fiddle music by Alice Nicholls.
Graeme Cooke brings Tales of the Faeries: Lust, Loss and Hollow Hills to The Samuel Worth Chapel on Tuesday 17 November, a storytelling evening built around the 'Good Folk' of British and Irish folklore and myth. Cooke tells the tales with humour, wandering asides and an unabashed love of the stories, all carried along by fiddle music from Alice Nicholls.
Cooke runs Tales of Britain and Ireland, a podcast praised for its cinematic scene-setting and moments of genuine tension, described as modern storytelling at its best. Nicholls is a Leeds-based multi-instrumentalist and composer, a former classical violinist who turned to the darker side of folk. Together they draw on the usual Good Folk fare: sex, violence, liminality and very thorough housework, with nary a gossamer wing in sight. The stories come from the folklore and myth of Britain and Ireland, and the evening is set in the atmospheric Samuel Worth Chapel.
