Free Samhain evening of spooky stories and poetry, with a musical interlude by the folk duo Mills & Farrell, run by the Sheffield Folklore Society.
The Sheffield Folklore Society is putting on a Samhain special at Chop Shop Bar & Grill on Wednesday 28 October, from 7pm to 9pm. It's a night of spooky storytelling, poetry and Samhain folklore, with a musical interlude from the folk duo Mills & Farrell to break up the talking.
The evening is built around the open mic: the Society opens the floor to storytellers and poets to share tales and verse inspired by the darker side of folklore and Samhain, and they're actively looking for people to fill those slots. If you've got a story or a poem that fits the bill, you can sign up and take a turn yourself. Fancy dress is encouraged, and there's a prize for the best-dressed guest, so it's a good night to dust off something a bit more theatrical than your usual mid-week gear.

Running the whole thing is the Sheffield Folklore Society, which also publishes a Samhain issue of its zine packed with Samhain folklore, available to buy on the night. The session runs for around two hours and is fully booked, so you'll want to get your name down early if you're planning to perform. Entry is free, and it all takes place at Chop Shop Bar & Grill, 1 Kelham Square, Kelham Island, Sheffield S3 8SB, on Wednesday 28 October from 7pm to 9pm.
