Free screening and discussion of the film 'National Emergency Briefing' at the Sheffield General Cemetery, part of Sensoria Festival 2026.
National Emergency Briefing are screening their film at the Sheffield General Cemetery on Sunday 31 October, with a discussion to follow. It's part of Sensoria Festival 2026, the arts and culture festival that runs across the city this autumn, and this particular session is presented as an immersive audiovisual installation. Rather than just a film on a screen, it brings together sound, electronic music, film and photography, all working around the cemetery's heritage and the natural life that's taken hold there.
Because it's an installation, the film is only one part of what you'll encounter. The electronic music and sound sit alongside the imagery, and the photography is woven in too, so it's more of an experience to walk through than a standard screening. The whole thing is built around the cemetery itself — its history and the wildlife that lives within its walls — so the setting on Cemetery Avenue is as much a part of the work as the film is.
After the screening, there's a discussion, so you'll have a chance to talk through what you've seen and heard with the people behind it. If you're into sound art, electronic music, or just the way a city's quieter corners can be turned into something to look at, this is exactly that kind of thing.
