Open comedy-improv session where improvisers of all levels perform scenes and games on stage in a supportive environment.
The Sheffield Improv Comedy Jam is back at The Harlequin on Tuesday 3 November, with doors opening at 6:45 pm and the session getting underway at 7:00 pm. It's an improv night open to everyone, from people who've never stepped foot on a stage to those who've been doing this for years. The whole point is that you don't need a script or a polished act to take part—you just show up and make it up on the spot.
The format is pretty straightforward. If you're a first-timer, your name goes into a hat, and when it's drawn, you'll either lead a scene or a game. From there, other names are pulled at random to join you on stage, so you'll find yourself working with a different group of people every time. It's all built on the fly, and since the pairings are random, no one knows who they'll be sharing the stage with until the moment happens.
It's designed to be a supportive environment, and that's not just a line—Terri is there to help anyone who hasn't done improv in a long time, or ever at all, so you won't be left to figure it out on your own. The night is hosted by Bobby A., with Alex K. as a Super Organizer, and it's as much about the people you'll meet as the scenes you'll end up in.

If you're thinking about it, keep in mind that it's an open session, not a seated show, so you can spend the evening watching from the crowd or get involved yourself. The Harlequin is at 108 Nursery St, Sheffield S3 8GG, and the session is upstairs. Doors open at 6:45 pm, it starts at 7:00 pm, and runs until 8:45 pm.
