Community Scrabble night for experienced players and newcomers, with two games in a group setting, run by Sheffield IVC.
The Beaten Track hosts a community Scrabble night on Thursday 22 October, from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM. It's run by Sheffield IVC, a friendly and informal social club affiliated with the Association of Intervarsity Clubs. They put on a wide range of social, cultural and sporting events across the city — everything from breakfasts and walks to carvery meals — and this is their Scrabble evening.
The session is aimed at experienced players and newcomers alike, so you don't need to be a wordsmith to join in. It usually works its way through two games in a group setting, and the rules are straightforward: no Scrabble dictionary is allowed, and only common words checkable in a standard English dictionary may be played. That means foreign words, proper nouns, slang, abbreviations, technical terms and swear words are all forbidden. If you have a spare Scrabble set, they encourage you to bring it along if numbers warrant.
Every week we pick 🏆 the 5 best 🏆 things to do in Sheffield and send them to your inbox. Just one weekly email, no spam.

As for the club itself, newcomers can attend three events before a yearly fee of £10 is requested. The night runs from 7:00 PM to 10:00 PM at The Beaten Track, 44 Campo Ln, Sheffield City Centre, S1 2DE.
