Monthly screening night for queer, trans, intersex, black and people of colour, with a potluck, discussion and subtitled films.
QTIBPOC Cinema Club is back at Gut Level on Tuesday 20 October, running from 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM. It's a monthly get-together for people who identify as queer, trans, intersex, black and people of colour, and the whole night is built around a film that disrupts colonial and straight narratives or uplifts QTIBPOC stories.
It works as much as a social as it does a screening. Everyone is invited to bring something to share for a potluck — bought, made or foraged, with ingredients noted so allergens can be labelled — and there's space to chat before and after. Each screening opens with special 'ads' and the trailer for next month's film, all films are subtitled, and the night closes with room for discussion. To take part you need to be a member, with membership from £2 per year.
The club forms part of Gut Level's wider programme, which focuses on giving a platform to people underrepresented in the music industry, including queer, LGBTQ+, womxn and non-binary people. The cinema club sits right in the middle of that, bringing together a specific community around film and food rather than a stage. If you're looking for a night that's as much about the people in the room as it is about what's on the screen, this is it.
