Night of music and culture with Otis Mensah Live and Sile at Gut Level.
Calabash! brings Our Modern Griots to Gut Level on Friday 30 October, a night of music and culture in the heart of Sheffield. The title refers to the griots of West Africa — the hereditary poets, musicians, and oral historians who've spent centuries keeping their communities' stories alive through song and speech. The evening takes that tradition and brings it into a contemporary setting.
The bill is led by Otis Mensah, performing live, with Sile joining him on the same night. There's also support to round out the evening, so it's a full run of acts rather than a single set. Between the two of them, you'll get a good stretch of music to sit with, and the support means the night starts well before the main names take the stage.
Every week we pick 🏆 the 5 best 🏆 things to do in Sheffield and send them to your inbox. Just one weekly email, no spam.

Gut Level is on Chapel Walk, right in the city centre, so it's an easy one to get to whether you're coming from the train station or just across town. The night runs from 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM, giving you plenty of room to settle in and hear the whole line-up without rushing. Tickets start from £8.00 and are available via ra.co.
