Monthly Thursday folk session at Gut Level, led by Lucy and Rosie Huzzard, with music from the UK, Ireland, France and Sweden.
Gut Level hosts its monthly Folk Session on Thursday 5 November, part of the PUB WORLD night that runs most Thursdays at the venue. This one is hosted by Lucy and Rosie Huzzard, and it's a session rather than a concert, so it's as much for playing as it is for listening. The music draws from the UK and Ireland, France and Sweden, and all traditions are welcome, so if you've got a song or a tune you've been working on, you can bring it along.
The session is led by and centred on women, marginalised genders and LGBTQ people, and it's run as an inclusive space for musicians, singers and listeners alike. That's a good way to describe the whole of Gut Level, too: it's a Sheffield venue with a programme focused on giving a platform to people underrepresented in the music industry — queer, LGBTQ+, womxn and non-binary people. Alongside the nights, they run workshops, socials and resident nights with the FLAW Collective, a space for marginalised genders to share skills and collaborate. Membership gives you access to those workshops, event invites and a say in community decisions.

If you're just coming to listen, that's fine too. The bar opens at 5pm and the session itself kicks off around 7pm, so there's plenty of time to grab a drink and settle in before the music starts. It runs until 11pm, and because it's a session, the night can take its own shape depending on who turns up and what they bring. The Folk Session happens on the first Thursday of the month, so if you miss this one, there'll be another in December.
