New material night of alternative comedy, cabaret, circus, dance, burlesque and drag at Alder, with pay-what-you-can tickets.
PLUGHOLE returns to Alder on Thursday 22 October, with doors at 7pm and the show starting at 7.30pm. It's a new material night, which is exactly what it says on the tin: a space for performers to try out work that might otherwise go unheard. The night bills itself as Sheffield's weirdest new material night, a cabaret of alternative weirdness where the acts on the bill are testing out new bits in front of a live audience.
The programme pulls from a wide range of forms, mixing alternative comedy with cabaret, circus, dance, burlesque, drag, character comedy, script work, theatre and collective games. It's a broad church of a night, and the organisers describe it as 'the cabaret of your dreams (and nightmares)'. Because it's a new material night, you're seeing things in their early stages, and the variety of what turns up is part of the draw.
Behind the scenes, the night is run by Daftelation, a not-for-profit worker co-operative and certified Co-operatives UK member that charges no platform fees, and it's presented in collaboration with Oliver Yates. If you're a performer yourself and want to get involved, you can email plugholescratch@gmail.com. There's also free on-street parking after 6.30pm at Alder Bar.
