Horror night with three short films by DIY Filmmakers Sheffield, a talk on horror filmmaking and a screening of The Evil Dead.
Kelham Island Film Club and DIY Filmmakers Sheffield are teaming up for a horror double-bill at the Alder Bar on Tuesday 27 October, just a few days before Halloween. It's a collaboration between the two, pairing a run of three horror and thriller shorts with an introductory talk about filmmaking and horror before the main feature.
The shorts come from DIY Filmmakers Sheffield, a collective of local makers, and the talk is designed to set the scene before the main event kicks in. Once the shorts are wrapped, the night moves on to The Evil Dead, Sam Raimi's 1981 debut. It's an independent demonic horror classic that put Raimi on the map, and it's the one that launched his career. If you've never seen it, it's the original cabin-in-the-woods story that a lot of later horror owes a debt to.
It's a strictly 18+ night, so keep that in mind if you're bringing a group. Ticket holders get bar discounts at the Alder Bar, and the showcase is supported by Big Trip Brewing, Studio Jumble, Cloud Coffee Co and Sheffherd.
