A vibrant children's ballet by Northern Ballet retelling the Robin Hood legend, with live music, suitable for all ages.
Northern Ballet bring Robin Hood to the Montgomery Theatre on Wednesday 7 April 2027, with two performances that day at 1pm and 3pm. It's a new production for them, an adventurous retelling of the legend where Robin and Maid Marian outwit the greedy Sheriff of Nottingham and discover that kindness and determination can be just as powerful as strength. It's pitched as a perfect introduction to live performance for young children, combining storytelling, ballet, recognisable characters and live music.
The choreography is by Northern Ballet soloist Heather Lehan, and Federico Bonelli directs. The whole thing runs around 40 minutes with no interval, which makes it an easy one to take the little ones to without worrying about them getting restless. It's suitable for all ages, and there are accessible performances available too.
Northern Ballet has a long history of children's ballets — Little Red Riding Hood, Tortoise & the Hare and Ugly Duckling are a few of them. Those have toured theatres, played in cinemas and even become BAFTA-winning CBeebies programmes, so this fits right into that tradition of making ballet accessible for kids. Robin Hood is part of a national tour that kicked off at the Stanley & Audrey Burton Theatre in Leeds back in February 2027, so by the time it reaches Sheffield, it'll have been on the road for a couple of months.

Both shows are on Wednesday 7 April, at 1pm and 3pm, at the Montgomery Theatre on 27 Surrey Street, Sheffield S1 2LG. With the shorter runtime and the early slots, it's a good one for a mid-week outing with the family.
