Freckle Productions' award-winning stage adaptation of Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler's Stick Man, with puppetry, songs, live music and funky moves.
Freckle Productions are bringing Stick Man to The Montgomery this Christmas, with the run starting Saturday 5 December and going through to Sunday 3 January. It's their stage adaptation of the Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler book, and it's built for the younger crowd — recommended for ages 3 and up.
On stage, the story is carried by a trio of actors: Sam Makepeace-Beach as Stick Man, Freya Stephenson as Stick Lady Love, and Toby Baddeley, who handles both acting and music. They bring the book to life with puppetry, songs, live music and funky moves, and the whole thing runs about an hour and five minutes with no interval. It's the same team behind Zog, Zog and the Flying Doctors and The Baddies, with original direction by Sally Cookson and music by Benji Bower.
There's a bit of history to the book itself. Julia Donaldson, who also wrote The Gruffalo and Zog, has sold over 75 million copies in more than 100 languages. The animated film, which Magic Light Pictures premiered in 2015, is still one of the most-viewed Christmas Day programmes in the UK. This production marks its 15th festive season in London and the book's 19th anniversary.
