Monthly open mic night of poetry and spoken word at Hop Hideout, with open slots for anyone who wants to perform.
First Draughts is back at Hop Hideout on Friday 30 October, the venue's regular monthly poetry and spoken word night. It runs on the last Friday of every month and is put on by the venue itself, so it's a Sheffield fixture rather than a one-off. The whole thing is built around community and craft, pairing beer and verse in a space that's openly friendly and supportive: no judgment, just good vibes and great lines.
That open-door approach is the point. The night is open to everyone, from seasoned wordsmiths to people who've been scribbling in a journal waiting for the right moment to share. Open mic slots are available for anyone wanting to perform a poem, a piece of spoken word, a short story or a rhythmic rant, so if you've got something you've been working on, this is a good place to get it out in front of people. The bill is made up of performances by various poets and speakers, with the open mic filling in the gaps.

It's held at Hop Hideout, 22 Cambridge Street in the city centre, and runs from 8 pm to 10 pm. Entry is free, though space is limited, so it's worth grabbing a ticket via Eventbrite in advance. There's a donation option available if you're feeling generous, but you don't have to pay to get in.
