Stand-up show by Daniel Kitson, with music and jokes, at The Playhouse in Sheffield.
Daniel Kitson brings his new show, Thrum, to The Playhouse on Friday 30 and Saturday 31 October, both nights starting at 7pm. It's a comedy show with music running more or less throughout, at least two funny voices and upwards of three jokes.
The text works as a rapid-fire series of images and fragments, tied together by the recurring word 'And'. Among them: a plant pot, a daffodil in December, a woman on a train wearing a badge, a dog rejecting a blanket, a mark on a jumper, a tree in storage on a farm in Kent, a toilet in Hong Kong and a coffee shop in Melbourne. It's a sequence of small, disparate things rather than a single story, held together by that one connecting word.
Kitson has been staging stand-up at the Edinburgh Fringe since 2001, with shows such as Love Innocence And The Word Cock, Keep, Something Other Than Everything and Analog.Ue Tree. Thrum continues that work, with the music woven in across the set rather than kept to a few songs.
