Stand-up show 'Allyson Wonderland' by Canadian comedian Allyson June Smith at Sheffield Plate, for ages 16+.
Allyson June Smith is playing Sheffield Plate on Friday 23 October, with doors opening at 19:00. She's a Canadian stand-up who's been working the comedy scene since 2000, when she left teaching to take up the mic. She's a multiple Canadian Comedy Award nominee for Best Female Stand-Up, and her credits include her own hour-long Comedy Now special, appearances on CBC Radio's The Debaters, and sets at the Winnipeg, Halifax and Just For Laughs festivals.
The show she's bringing is Allyson Wonderland, which takes the audience through her own personal Wonderland—down the rabbit hole of family foibles and the travelling tales of a people-pleasing, polite but vicious Canadian. It's a look at her own life and family, told with that particular Canadian blend of being perfectly polite while cutting right through it.
She's been described as brilliantly witty and wonderfully warm, and she's supported Jen Brister at The Crucible. Comedy figures like Brister and Katherine Ryan have praised her, and Jason Manford called her 'a huge star'. If you're not familiar with her, that's a good place to start: a Canadian comic who's spent over two decades on stage and is now touring her own hour.
