Adults-only Christmas pantomime set in Ancient Rome, with innuendo, live music and audience participation, by Far Out Theatre.
Far Out Theatre are bringing A Roman Rumble: The Rude Panto! to The University of Sheffield Drama Studio on Friday 18 and Saturday 19 December. It's an adults-only panto set in Ancient Rome, and it's exactly what the title suggests: loud, lewd and stuffed with innuendo.
The plot centres on the devious Emperor Caligula, who hatches a plan to take over Egypt and wed Cleopatra. Chaos erupts across the empire, with Mark Antony and Julius Caesar both hopelessly in love with her. Bumbling waiter Felix Flavius and the booze-soaked Dame Chianti Divino try to save the day, aided by a snaky little sidekick with a taste for drama. Along the way, there are plot twists, bad accents, surprise parentage and singalong chaos.
It's a full-on panto, so expect live musical numbers and audience participation. Far Out Theatre describe it as wine-soaked, filthy and scandalous, and an adventure in which no dignity survives intact. It's aimed at audiences who like their theatre big, bold and dripping in innuendo, so it's one for the adults rather than the family crowd.
