Evening with lowered lights and sounds and sensory tools for visitors with sensory needs at the Natural History Museum of Utah.
The Natural History Museum of Utah is hosting a Sensory-Friendly Evening on Wednesday, November 4, from 4 PM to 8 PM. It's a joint offering with the Utah Museum of Fine Arts, so the two museums are running this as a paired event. The UMFA side kicks off earlier in the day, starting at 10 AM, while the NHMU evening runs through the late afternoon and into the night.
The whole point of the evening is to make the museum more accessible for visitors with sensory needs. During these hours, the museum dials down the lights and sounds, and they have sensory tools and resources available on-site. There's also programming tailored to those needs, so the experience is adjusted to be more comfortable if bright lights or loud noises usually make a museum visit feel like too much.
One of the best parts is how easy it is to get in. There's no pre-registration required, so you don't have to plan weeks in advance or worry about a ticket window closing. When you arrive, you just sign in at the front desk to collect your ticket. If you need an ASL interpreter, one is available upon request—just send an email to the museum at least 72 hours before the event so they have time to arrange it.
Every week we pick 🏆 the 5 best 🏆 things to do in Salt Lake City and send them to your inbox. Just one weekly email, no spam.

It's free to attend, and the museum is located at 301 Wakara Way in Salt Lake City. With the evening running from 4 PM to 8 PM, you've got a good four-hour window to take your time and move through the galleries at your own pace.
