Junior Chef class for bakers ages 9 and up to make holiday quick breads like chocolate banana swirl, pumpkin chocolate chip and sweet potato biscuits.
Salt Lake Culinary Education is hosting a Junior Chef: Holiday Quick Breads class on Saturday, December 12, from 10 AM to 1 PM. It's aimed at kids ages 9 and up, so it works for a younger baker who's ready to spend a morning in the kitchen rather than just helping out around the house.
The session focuses on seasonal quick breads—the kind you mix and bake in one go without waiting for dough to rise—and the lineup is built around winter flavors. They'll be making Chocolate Banana Swirl Bread, Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Bread, and Sweet Potato Biscuits. It's a hands-on class, so the kids do the work themselves: mixing, measuring, and baking. Along the way, they'll pick up the basic techniques that carry over to almost everything else they'll bake at home.
One thing to keep in mind is the group size. They're limiting the class to 12 spots, which means it stays small enough for the instructor to spend actual time with each kid at the bench rather than just shouting instructions from the front of the room. If your kid is still a bit tentative with a mixer or a measuring cup, that's the kind of setting where they'll actually get the help they need to figure it out.

Tickets are $100 per person, and gratuity isn't included. With the small group size, these spots usually go pretty quickly, so if you're planning on it, it's better to book sooner rather than later. The class runs from 10 AM to 1 PM on Saturday, December 12, at Salt Lake Culinary Education.
