FAME The Musical

FAME The Musical returns to Theatre Royal Plymouth from 28 July to 15 August 2026, playing in The Lyric. It's a revival presented by the theatre itself, and for those who know the show, it's coming back to the very place it first landed in the UK.

Set in 1980s Manhattan, the story follows a group of students at The High School of Performing Arts who come of age through their shared passion for music, drama, and dance. The score is the thing most people recognise, including the title song 'Fame' written by Dean Pitchford and Michael Gore. The book is by Jose Fernandez, with lyrics by Jacques Levy and music by Steve Margoshes.

This production marks the 30th anniversary of the show's European premiere, which took place right here at Theatre Royal Plymouth in 1995. From that start, it went on to a decade-long run in the West End and toured widely, so seeing it return to the same stage is a bit of a full-circle moment. This new version is directed and choreographed by Tom Jackson Greaves, with design by Soutra Gilmour and conceived and developed by David De Silva.
