Free screening of the drama 'Insyriated', a tense film about a family sheltering in a Damascus apartment during the Syrian civil war, with a Syrian plant-based meal from the Community Kitchen.
New Art Exchange is screening Insyriated on Thursday 5 November, a tense drama that takes place over a single day inside a Damascus apartment during the Syrian civil war. Outside, the conflict is raging; inside, a mother tries to keep her family and the neighbours sheltering in the building safe. Cut off from the world and unsure what danger lies beyond the front door, those inside have to make difficult decisions to survive. It's described as a gripping, intimate film about family, fear and resilience in the middle of war.
The screening is a drop-in session, so you don't have to be there right from the start. It runs for about two hours and is for ages 15 and over. The film itself starts at 18:00 and finishes around 20:00, but the venue opens its doors from 17:00, giving you plenty of time to settle in before the lights go down.
If you arrive early, there's more to do than just wait for the film. From 5 pm, the venue's Community Kitchen will be serving a Syrian plant-based meal, and you can wander through the galleries before the screening begins. It's a good way to spend the hour before the film starts, especially if you're coming from work.
