Free night celebrating Black creativity, culture and achievement in Nottingham, in partnership with the Nottingham Black Creatives Network.
FluentInBoth: Black Excellence is on at New Art Exchange on Friday 30 October, from 18:30 to 22:30. It's a celebration of Black creativity, culture, achievement and community, staged in partnership with the Nottingham Black Creatives Network. The night brings together artists and creatives to showcase the diverse talents and narratives found within local Black communities, to honour how far the community has come and to give flowers to the people doing incredible things right here in Nottingham.
It's a four-hour evening, and the venue is part of the story. New Art Exchange is the UK's largest gallery dedicated to contemporary visual arts from the Global Ethnic Majority. It's also the first cultural institution worldwide to include a permanent citizen assembly, the VOICE assembly, as part of its leadership structure. That assembly champions inclusivity and equity in the creative industries through its Connect-Create-Cultivate-Transform-Exchange talent development model, so the space itself is built around the same kind of community and creative support the night is celebrating.
