Documentary theatre and dance by LUNG, weaving the testimonies of three families who lost loved ones at HMP Woodhill into a stage piece.
LUNG bring Woodhill to Norwich Theatre Royal on Tuesday 10 November, a single performance in the Playhouse. It's a piece of documentary theatre built from the first-hand testimonies of three families who lost sons and brothers to self-inflicted deaths at HMP Woodhill prison. The company weaves verbatim words with choreography by Alex, turning a story of institutional failure, bereavement and the pursuit of justice into a stage piece that exposes the negligence embedded within the system.
It's a heavy subject, and the production doesn't shy away from it. It deals with self-harm, suicide, addiction, racism, child loss and extreme violence, and contains strong language and strobe lighting. The cast — Miah Robinson, Marina Climent and Tyler Brazao — met the Woodhill families during rehearsals, and the work is tied to an active campaign that continues beyond the stage. It's recommended for ages 16 and over.
