Live gig with Gnoomes, YUFO and Blue Cinema at The Holloway, the basement venue behind Norwich Psych Fest.
Gnoomes headline The Holloway on Friday 30 October, with YUFO and Blue Cinema on the bill. It's a triple bill in a 60-capacity basement off St Benedicts Streets, run by the people behind Norwich Psych Fest and The Cool Greenhouse.
Gnoomes are a psychedelic kosmische-pop duo who formed in Perm, Russia, and now base themselves in Slovenia. Clash described their sound as "seriously delirious and transportive", and it sits somewhere between shoegaze radiance, motorik rhythms and dreamy electronic experimentation. If you're into the more expansive, textural side of psych, that's a good place to start.
Blue Cinema are a Cambridge quintet formed in 2022 by Malka on vocals and Gigi on guitar, with Annie on keys, Jack on bass and J Mass on drums. They call their sound "shoe-synth-dream" — a hypnotic blend of shoegaze, dreampop, synth-pop, psychedelic and new wave. Their influences run through Cocteau Twins, My Bloody Valentine and New Order, and they balance nostalgia with a modern edge. Their debut EP Passages introduced that sound, and tracks like "Cerebro" show them building immersive sonic worlds. Live, they've supported Miki Berenyi Trio and Chastity Belt and played Shiny New Model Festival.
