Free 18+ afternoon of garage punk and British punk with The DeRellas, Coyote Men and Phobics at Billy Bootleggers.
The DeRellas are playing Billy Bootleggers on Sunday 18 October, bringing their brand of rock 'n' roll up from London for the afternoon. They're the main draw on a bill that also features Coyote Men and Phobics, and the whole thing is presented by Billy Bootleggers and Prehistoric Sounds Presents.
If you're not familiar with them, The DeRellas play glam-tinged, sleazy garage punk that sits in the same neighbourhood as the New York Dolls, the Dead Boys, the Heartbreakers and MC5. Classic Rock described their sound as infusing the spirit of those bands with a young, loud LAMF snottiness. Their album Something's Got To Give picked up strong critical praise, including an 8/10 from Vive Le Rock and a 9.5/10 from Maximum Volume. On guitar for this one is Jez Miller, known from The Men That Will Not Be Blamed For Nothing.
Rounding out the bill are Phobics, who formed in Deptford in 1999 as a bunch of punk survivors and misfits and have spent more than 25 years bringing proper British punk to the people. Between them and The DeRellas, the afternoon should lean pretty heavily into the louder, rawer end of things.
