Relaxed open mic night for songwriters to perform their original songs, with solo artists and acoustic bands, in a supportive 18+ space.
The Songwriters Club is back at The Glasshouse on Friday 27 November, with an open mic night in the Northern Rock Foundation Hall. It's an inclusive one, set up for anyone who writes their own original songs to get them in front of an audience. The whole point is that it's for songwriters, not cover acts, so everything you hear that night will be something someone in the room actually wrote.
They describe it as a relaxed, inclusive space, and they're pretty clear about who it's for: anyone who writes their own songs, whether you've been at it for years, have only just started, or have recently finished one you want to share. It's framed as a supportive environment for sharing music, building confidence and connecting with other musicians, and they make a point of saying the songs don't need to be perfect and the performers don't need to be seasoned. If you've got a song you're still working on, this is exactly the kind of room to bring it to.
On the stage, solo artists can perform with backing tracks or acoustic accompaniment, and acoustic bands are welcome too. Each act is limited to 15 minutes, and there's a no drum kits rule, which keeps the whole thing on the quieter, acoustic side of things. It's a night for the songwriting itself rather than the full-band production.

The room is strictly age 18+, and it runs from 7pm to 10pm. Audience tickets are £7 per person, and performers get in for free. If you've been sitting on a few songs and haven't found the right place to play them, this is a good shout.
