The Olive Tree Market

The Olive Tree Market is back at Civic Park on Saturday 1 August, from 9am to 2pm. It's a regular on the city's calendar, running on the first Saturday of every month, so if you miss this one, there's always the next.

The market launched in 2008 with a specific aim: to give Newcastle's contemporary artists and designers a space to showcase handmade, maker and ethically created goods, with an ethos rooted in community and reconciliation. It's grown from there, supporting more than 800 artists, designers and small businesses across more than 115 market days. The organisers describe it as a meeting place with a festival atmosphere, where you gather with family and friends to feast on street food and hear live local music.

Each edition brings together a curated line-up of over 100 emerging and established artists, designers, makers, gourmet artisan food producers and street food purveyors. Alongside the stalls, the organisers run workshops, so you can do more than just browse. It's family-friendly and pet-friendly, with a cafe, restaurant and gift shop on site, which makes it easy to spend a few hours there rather than just popping in and out.

It's free to enter, and it runs from 9am to 2pm at Civic Park, King Street, Newcastle NSW 2300.
