The 48th annual Bikers For Kids toy run where motorbikes ride from Stockton to Connolly Park loaded with toys, followed by a family day with face painting, kids' rides, market stalls, food trucks and live music.
Bikers For Kids returns to Connolly Park on Sunday 6 December for the Newcastle Toy Run and Family Day. It's now in its 48th year, so it's one of those local traditions that's been running since long before most of us were around. The morning starts in Stockton, where around ten thousand motorbikes of all shapes and sizes line up to ride through to Carrington, led by Santa's Sleigh. They arrive at the park loaded with toys and Christmas cheer, and the whole thing is about getting gifts to kids who might otherwise go without.
That's the core of the day: every donated gift goes to a child or teenager in need through The Salvation Army Christmas Appeal. If you're heading down, bringing a toy along is the best way to get involved. The run itself is a bit of a spectacle, with thousands of bikes rolling in together, but the day doesn't stop once they've arrived.
Around the park, the family day takes over. There's free face painting for the kids, rides to keep them busy, market stalls to browse, food trucks for lunch, and live music playing throughout. It's a family- and pet-friendly atmosphere, so it works just as well if you've got the whole crew with you as it does if you're just popping in for a bit. The park has a cafe, a carpark, and public toilets on site, which makes it easy enough to settle in for the afternoon.
