Newcastle City Library is running a kids' clay session on Wednesday 7 October, part of their school holidays programme. It's called Air Dry Clay - Mini Bugs, and the whole thing is aimed at children aged 5 to 12. The idea is simple: each child gets to shape their own small bug out of air-dry clay, which then hardens on its own over the following days without needing a kiln. It's a good one for anyone who likes getting their hands a bit messy and wants something they can actually take home and keep.
Because it's air-dry clay, there's no firing involved, so the bug they make is finished as soon as it's dry. It's a one-hour session, and since it's geared towards the younger crowd, parents and carers need to stay and help out throughout. It's not a drop-off class, so you'll be right there with them while they work.
If you can't make the city on the Wednesday, the library is running the same session at Wallsend Library as well, so there are a couple of options depending on which side of town you're on. Booking is essential, and tickets are only for the children attending. The session runs from 10:30 to 11:30am at Newcastle City Library, 15 Laman Street, Newcastle, and it costs A$5 per child.
