A family-friendly market showcasing local produce, gourmet foods, and artisan goods with live entertainment and a play centre.
Newcastle City Farmers Market runs most Sundays at the Newcastle Showground, on Griffiths Road in Broadmeadow. It's been a fixture here since 2005, run by NSW Farmers Market Pty Ltd, who also put on the Newcastle Food Market, Newcastle Fine Food Market, Glendale Farmers & Artisan Market and Speers Point Farmers Market. The whole thing is set up as a showcase for local produce and gourmet finds, where you buy your groceries directly from the farmers and makers who grew, nurtured and made them.
The stalls cover a fair bit of ground. You'll find boutique wineries alongside local farmers, producers and artisans, with organic fruit and vegetables, Jersey cow milk, stone-ground sourdough bread, jams and preserves, fresh pasta and Sydney Rock Oysters. There are food trucks on site too, so you can eat while you shop. It's a good spot to pick up the week's fresh food and a few treats at the same time.
It's pitched as a family-friendly Sunday morning out, and the setup reflects that. There's a Little Sprouts play centre for the kids, live entertainment to keep things lively, and an onsite food court if you're staying for more than a quick run. One thing to keep in mind: no dogs are allowed, so leave the pup at home for this one.
