A community-led LEGO fan event featuring giant cityscapes, Star Wars displays, hands-on building areas, and a 'Find A Minifigure' hunt.
Newcastle Brickfest returns to the Newcastle Racecourse on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 September, the region's longest-running LEGO fan event. It's run by local volunteer fans rather than a company, and it's one of the biggest of its kind in New South Wales, with exhibitors coming from across the country to set up. The racecourse fills with hundreds of tables of original builds: sprawling cityscapes with working trains, Star Wars displays, and moving Technic models.
There's plenty to do beyond just looking. A hands-on build area lets kids get stuck in, and hourly speed builds keep things moving throughout the day. There's a 'Find A Minifigure' hunt to follow around the room, a colouring-in competition for under-12s, a cosplay area, and a monster raffle. If you're going with kids, the racecourse canteen runs all weekend, so you can grab a bite and a drink without leaving the grounds.
One thing worth noting is the sensory session on Sunday morning. It's a dedicated 90-minute window for people with sensory sensitivities, so you can see the displays in a quieter environment before the main crowd arrives. The whole thing is strictly not-for-profit: over the last ten years, the event has donated A$140,000 to local schools and charities, and all profits from this edition go to the John Hunter Children's Hospital Kids Club.
