Homegrown Markets The Station

Homegrown Markets are back at The Station on Saturday 12 September, from 10am to 2pm. It's a handmade, eco-friendly market that celebrates all things homegrown, and they describe themselves as the largest market community in the Hunter region. If you've been before, you know the drill: it's a big, open-air gathering of local makers and creators, and this one falls on the second Saturday of the month, which is when they usually run.

There are around 100 stalls to work your way through, all local handmade and eco goods. It's not just about the shopping, either — there's live acoustic music playing throughout the morning, face painting for the kids, bouncy castles, and food trucks on site. It's the kind of thing you can drift in and out of over a few hours, whether you're there for a specific find or just to wander around with a coffee.

The venue is The Station, the city's old train station. The tracks were filled in a few years ago to make way for a community events space, so the market sits right where the trains used to run, next to the heritage-listed buildings. It's a good spot to spend a Saturday morning in the city, especially if you're coming with kids.

Homegrown Markets run all year round, on the second Saturday of every month, with an extra date on the fourth Saturday of November. This one is at The Station, on the corner of Scott and Watt Streets in Newcastle, from 10am to 2pm.
