AIMS-accredited marathon and half marathon with a scenic course along Newcastle's harbour and beaches, starting and finishing at Foreshore Park.
The Henderson Newcastle Marathon returns to the city on Sunday 18 April 2027, with the start and finish both at Foreshore Park. It's a double-header, with a full marathon and a half marathon running on the same day, so you can pick the distance that suits you. Both are open to elite and recreational runners, and the course is AIMS-accredited, which is the kind of thing that matters if you're chasing a personal best.
The route is flat, fast and scenic, taking you along the harbour and the beaches. You'll pass the Honeysuckle Foreshore, Carrington, Nobbys and Newcastle Beach, so it's as much about the views as the running. It's a good fit whether you're aiming for a PB, tackling your first marathon or half, or just out to take in the coastline. There's atmosphere, entertainment and spectator support along the way, too.
One thing to keep in mind: the event has a new home. Construction at The Station, on the corner of Scott and Watt Streets, has moved the start and finish to the Foreshore Park car park on Wharf Road. Because of that, the course is being remeasured and re-routed, so it'll feel a bit different from previous years.

Cut-off times are six hours for the full marathon and four hours for the half. Everyone who finishes gets a medal, but prizes go only to the overall male and female winners. Dogs aren't permitted on the course. The whole thing kicks off at 6am from the Foreshore Park car park, where you'll also finish.
