A large community market featuring over 120 stalls of local produce, handmade goods, street food and eco-friendly products in a lakeside setting.
Homegrown Markets are back at Speers Point Park on Sunday 6 September, from 10am to 2pm. It's a lakeside spot in Newcastle, right on the edge of Lake Macquarie, so you can spend the morning wandering the stalls and then hang out by the water for a bit. Local musicians usually play throughout the day, which gives you something to listen to while you're browsing.
The market is run by Lauren and Lewis, and they've built it around a couple of non-negotiables: everything has to be handmade, locally produced, and eco-friendly. Every stallholder has to meet those standards, so you're not going to find mass-produced imports here. It's a commitment to local makers and to keeping things kind to the planet, and that's what they describe as the core of the whole thing.
On a good day, there are more than 120 stalls to get through, and the variety is pretty wide. You'll find street food and gourmet produce to eat on the go, alongside home-made textiles, eco-conscious skincare, ceramics, jewellery, artwork and handmade baby clothes. It's the kind of place where you can pick up a proper lunch and a few unique things for the house in one go, rather than having to hunt across different spots.

They call it the largest market community in the Hunter region, and it's a regular fixture: the markets run on the first and third Sunday of every month, so if you miss this one, there's usually another one coming up soon. This edition is on Sunday 6 September, 10am to 2pm at Speers Point Park.
