Open-mic storytelling night in which anyone can share a true, five-minute personal story about the theme 'Keeping the Faith'.
The Moth StorySLAM comes to The Parkway Theater on Monday, November 23, for a night of live storytelling. If you've never been to a StorySLAM, it's a pretty straightforward setup: it's an open-mic competition where anyone can sign up to take the stage and share a true, personal story from their own life. The only rule is that it has to be five minutes long and built around the night's theme.
This month's theme is Keeping the Faith. The Moth describes it as an invitation for stories about believing without seeing, throwing a Hail Mary pass, or being surprised by a stranger's kindness. They're looking for the small miracles, the deep rituals, the storms weathered and the courses stayed. It's a broad enough prompt that it can go in a lot of directions—from the spiritual and the religious to the purely secular, like holding onto a hope when things look bleak. Because the stories are true and told from the heart, the night usually lands on a mix of the funny and the heavy.
One of the best things about the format is that the stage is open to anyone, so you're hearing from people you'd never cross paths with otherwise. The night is open to all ages, too, which means it's a good one to bring along a friend or a family member. You don't need to be a professional storyteller to get up there—the whole point is that these are just people telling their own stories.
