A guided yin yoga practice combined with live sound healing, using guitar, synthesizer, harmonium and singing bowls for deep release and restoration.
Ellie and Kristen are teaming up for a yin yoga and sound bath session at The Cedar Cultural Center on Sunday, October 25. It runs from 6:30 PM to 8:00 PM.
If you've never done yin yoga, it's a slower practice than what you'll find in most studios. Instead of moving through a sequence, you hold a few poses for several minutes at a time, usually supported by props. The goal is to work into the deeper connective tissues—the fascia and ligaments—rather than the muscles, and to let the body settle into each shape. Ellie guides the practice, and the long holds are meant to soften the body and quiet the nervous system.
While you're in those poses, Kristen provides a live sound bath that runs throughout the session. She works with a guitar, a synthesizer, a harmonium, and singing bowls, layering the sounds so they unfold alongside the movement. The two parts happen together: the physical release of the yoga and the sound healing happening in the room at the same time.
