Free analog collage workshop in which participants cut and assemble a curated social media profile for any subject without using images of it.
Art Club is back at the Walker Art Center on Thursday, October 29, with a workshop called Analog FYP. It's part of the museum's Free Thursday Nights, so it's free to drop in—no ticket or registration required.
The prompt is a strange one: you're tasked with cutting and collaging a curated social media profile for any person, place, or thing you like, but with one rule—you can't use any images of the subject itself. The Walker provides the templates, the FYP designs, and the Instagram borders; you bring the subject and the cutting. The whole thing is meant to be a reflection on how we're perceived online, even when we put a lot of care into how we present ourselves digitally.
If you haven't been, Art Club is the Walker's free Thursday-night series for adults, running from September to May in the Art Lab. It's built around creative experimentation and community, and it's grown over the last four years. Sophia Reed, the museum's manager of public engagement, says participants value the chance to step away from their phones and make something with their hands. The program welcomes all skill levels and regularly brings in local guest artists and community collaborators. Past and future workshops have covered ceramics, acrylics, weaving, zines, cosplay, and music sampling.

Analog FYP runs from 5 to 8 PM in the Art Lab, and materials are handed out on a first-come, first-served basis. The galleries stay open until 9 PM, so you can hang out and look around before or after you make your profile.
